Coastal royalty crowned at under-the-sea pageant spectacular
Duinesig High School erupted in cheers as Joyce Hangula and Giovanno Uri-Kob were crowned winners of the school’s annual beauty pageant.
The vibrant, under-the-sea-themed evening brought together a competitive group of talented finalists, with learners and supporters gathering to celebrate beauty, confidence and talent. Martha Kurondwa and Johannes Eengombe were named first runners-up, while Laimi Matheus and David Hainghumbi took second runner-up positions.
Contestants competed in three categories: sporty attire, casual streetwear and elegant formal wear. The finalists took to the runway, showcasing their confidence, personalities and style as they competed for the coveted titles.
Hangula and Uri-Kob ultimately impressed the audience and judges with their confidence and stage presence, earning them the crowns and the opportunity to represent their fellow learners with pride.
The event was not without its challenges. Some logistical issues were noticeable, while several contestants appeared nervous during the live question-and-answer segment. Despite this, the contestants showed determination and courage by stepping onto the stage and giving their best.
The visual presentation also added to the atmosphere. Despite the school’s limited resources, creative under-the-sea decorations transformed the venue and brought the ocean-inspired theme to life.
Entertainment throughout the evening received mixed reactions from the large student crowd. Energetic dance groups and a singer known as Medicine delivered performances that kept the audience entertained. However, some learners felt the music selection could have done more to maintain the energy of the event.
Nevertheless, the pageant created an exciting and memorable experience for the Duinesig High School community. The lively atmosphere, colourful decorations and talented contestants made it an evening to remember.
