For the love of serving

With a love for serving and helping people from different backgrounds, 24-year-old Dafney Vries was recently employed as a waitress at O’Portuga restaurant in Klein Windhoek.

The jovial and vibrant Vries has four years’ experience in the hospitality sector as she was previously employed as a waitress in the heart of the south, where she also worked as a relief teacher before deciding to move to the capital city.

“It has always been my passion to serve people, particularly to serve the way I would have wanted to be served upon arrival to certain places,” Vries, who has been employed at the Portuguese restaurant for the past four months, said.

“I moved to Windhoek in search of greater heights and to serve at better places.”

The waitress, who also has a passion for cooking and trying new recipes in her free time, completed her secondary school education at Suiderlig High School in the hot southern town of Keetmanshoop and started working as an administrative clerk at a local events company, DeRose Investments CC, before realising her hospitality passions.

“Dafney has always been a determined and hard worker. She is dedicated to completing tasks and always has a vibrancy and liveliness to her wherever she goes. Definitely an asset to any organisation she joins,” Rosemary Deku, founder of DeRose Investments and Vries’ former employer, said.

The lively Vries is described as an optimist by her peers and colleagues at her current workplace.

“I believe that my love for people along with my optimism makes my line of work a breeze and a pleasure for me. I get to meet new people, particularly from diverse backgrounds, at my new workplace. This keeps me motivated and excited to go to work, even on days when it may seem exhausting,” she said.
