AB InBev Namibia to welcome new graduates into training programme

AB InBev Namibia, as part of its commitment to creating a bright future for the country’s students, has invited 11 graduates to join its in-service traineeship (IST) programme. The recent graduates, who are in the science and technical skills fields, will join various departments within AB InBev Namibia’s Welwitschia Brewery in Okahandja, and receive hands-on practical industry training. The programme is set to operate depending on the needs of the business and the trainees will be employed temporarily to assist during peak season.

This is not the first time Ab InBev Namibia has taken in graduates to be part of the programme, and its success with previous cohorts has demonstrated real value in contributing to youth development.

Although permanent employment for the trainees cannot be guaranteed, when opportunities are available, the trainees are closely considered, given their exposure. Trainees who have impressed in the past have been appointed in permanent positions.

Ami Afadzinu joined as an IST in the quality department in 2020 and is now permanently employed in the same department as of June 2021.

Recalling her time in the programme, she said: “The training prepared me to understand that tasks are not as difficult as they seem, and this allowed me to view my job description with positivity and it empowered me to have a learning spirit”.

Lavinia Kamberipa, who studied chemistry and is a trainee in the brewing department, said that she “enjoyed the organic chemistry in the brewing process as she is a chemist by profession”, and that “the brewing department is demanding but the teamwork makes it rewarding”.

Alexanderie Basson, legal and corporate affairs manager, said: “My advice to the youth is that what you put in is what you get out. You need to take every opportunity that comes your way and learn from it. Grab it with both hands and make sure you do not waste this wonderful opportunity”.

The business hopes that the implementation of the IST programme will continue laying a fundamental assurance that will properly enhance students’ readiness for work placement in the future.
