Achievements of a humble cricket player
Tracey-Ann BensonBorn on the 22nd of January 2003 in the remote village of Okelembu, Victoria Hamunyela is not your average girl. At just 17 years of age, she has numerous sportswoman of the year titles, holds international and regional metals, and has travelled a quarter of the Earth corner. She travelled to South Africa for under regional trials, to Botswana for under 19 BCA ladies international T20 tournament, Zimbabwe for ICC woman qualifier Africa 2019, and to Scotland for the women's’ world cup. What an adventure!
She started cricket because her best friend got interested in cricket in 2015, and she decided to join. She first played for other teams before she became a professional player. Her role model is Nathan Leon because they play the same position. She thanks her coaches, Quinton Haoseb, and Madala Hangula, her parents and friends for the endless support. “I felt so proud of myself achieving what I could never dream of. My advice to my fellow learners is to always be optimistic in whatever you are doing.
“Always beam with that I CAN DO IT attitude, and pray because God is the key to all doors,” Victoria said.
