Mac-Donald Vihanga, founder of Generation Next Youth Club, says today’s leaders were once yesterday’s children and therefore he has the mandate to groom the leaders of the future.

“Here at Generation Next we understand that today’s leaders were once yesterday’s children and so our aim is to groom the future leaders and equip them with a moral compass to reach future destinations that will make us proud,” says the young founder.

Generation Next offers fun-filled activities and literacy programmes designed to keep young people occupied in wholesome and constructive ways.

One of their main goals is to build an outdoor stage for hosting live events but Vihanga says they simply do not have the funds to make that dream a reality.

“Even though the Okahandja town council has responded positively to the need for such an establishment with regards to providing a space for the activities to be carried out, we need to acquire more funds,” he says.

‘Making Okahandja Great Again’ is part of the club’s core mission and they are planning a campaign to strengthen that effort.

Vihanga grew up at the town and says that back in the day, they had hope for a better future but he doesn’t see the same dream in the young people of today.

“We are appealing to any entity that feels the same about the subjects at hand: teenage pregnancies, alcohol and drug abuse, crime, and so on.

“Please get in touch with us because we have the architectural plan to build this generation’s saving ark but we need the funds for the material and necessary equipment,” he adds.

The club is run by community members, volunteers and a board. At the moment they run a gym and a recording studio from Vihanga’s premises.

The recording studio offers accommodation for out-of-town visitors who wish to stay and work on projects for longer periods.
