Duinesig choir is once again going to represent Namibia at the Afrikaans Language and Culture Association (ATKV) Applous choir competition from the 24th to the 27th of July in Bloemfontein South Africa. The Duinesig choir won gold at the ATKV Applous choir competition in Swakopmund at Namib Primary School Aula. The choir competed against various schools from all over the country. The Duinesig choir has been participating and enjoying the ATKV competition ever since because it allows the choir members to express their emotions through their voices. They’ve been participating from 2012 to 2015 and in the year 2015 they were overall winners of the competition in South Africa. In the years 2016 to 2018 the school choir did not partake because they were busy building a winning combination. The choir conductors included Eupha Lilungwe a matriculant from Duinesig, Tjombe Otniel, Mrs Harases and Miss Shipiki .

Theodore Cookson the Mascato choir conductor was also present at the competition as a judge with Miss Gisela de Villiers. Theodore Cookson said ‘a competition of the magnitude provide opportunities for school choirs to improve their repertoire’. We hope once again the school choir will surprise the Duinesig family with good news but for now let’s just sit back and relax till they go and come back with the news.
