CURRICULUM IMPLEMENTATION, WORKING OR NOT

The introduction of the new curriculum has benefited specific people but it also have some effective drawbacks to others.

At first, the learners were too excited to know that they will be finishing school earlier but giving it a try gave them another thought about it. They are finding it too difficult to cope with the work which appears to be too much for them. They complain of doing a different topic every day and some are not well explained at all… understood or not, the teacher will just move on.

The learners also feel like teachers are not showing them any sympathy at all and they are disregarding the fact that the learners are just getting started so they should go slow and let them adjust slowly as this is a whole new phase to them.

Furthermore, there is a shortage of textbooks and the learners must share the few available books. These learners (grade 10’s) are also not matured and they are failing to see what’s coming to them thus they are giving teachers a tough time.

On the other hand, some learners are finding it fun, more exploring and the fact that they are only doing 6 subjects overwhelms them the most. This is also giving learners who are not academic performers a chance at least to get a senior certificate and thus, they will have varieties of choices to different careers.

The textbooks of the new curriculum are also interesting and colourful. The best thing about them is that they are summarised and the modules are combined instead of having them separately. The information in this textbooks are more advanced and they are more detailed.

The greatest advantage of this curriculum is that learners know that there is no longer NAMCOL and so they will try more harder enough to avoid ending up on streets. Seeing that learners are putting more efforts on their studies makes me believe that they will do well and definitely make not only the school proud but the country at large.

All I can say about this is that every decision made has effects and not all of them are positive.
