Delving into the world of Accounting

Three of Duneside High School’s pupils attended the Price Waterhouse Cooper Accounting workshop. These learners were Anna Uupindi, Pretty Mufalali and Jacky Geirises. The workshop also served as a recruiting process and PWC also offers bursaries to applicants who meet the requirements, where they would pay the tuition of four years to the selected applicants. Learners had to attend the workshop in full school uniform, representing their schools. The program started at 08h00 the morning on the Thursday and schools that attended was Walvis Bay Private High School, Duneside High School, Pro-Ed Akademie, St Boniface College and Gabriel Taapopi Senior Secondary School. On the first day of the program, many members of PWC came and spoke to the learners. These members included Insurers as well as Charted Accountants where they also had the learners play a game of monopoly to test their accounting skills and they had to draw up various accounting statements. They gave the pupils advice on once they become a Charted Accountant what they can do and their opportunities. The day ended off at 3 o’clock . On the second day, the pupils were instructed to wear casual clothes, but the main dress code was a jean and a black top. PWC took the pupils to their Auditing Group, Gendev, it’s a Fish Factory where they catch horse mackerel, and they package it and sell it to retailers. To become a Charted Accountant you study for three years and fourth year you do your honors, but when studying with BWC paying your tuition, You’ll have to work for them, or another accounting firm, until you graduate then you decide whether PWC in Namibia is the place for you to continue working or if you’d like to venture out of the country and work for them in another country. The pupils also received some souvenirs including a ruler, fidget spinner, pens and pencils.
