They believe that to make a global impact starts within the school and children are the leaders of tomorrow. Through starting on a small scale, the wish to build a network with a strong foundation in the communities on both sides of the world.

These members will be travelling to Germany to join hands with the newly formed group hosting them in Rheine. During this encounter they will be having various workshops on sustainability and projects related to sustainability.

Christopher Barwa, says that he is expecting to finally see what is on the other side of the world. “I believe this trip will give me new perspective on life, once I see how things are developed and how the Germans operate during everyday life.”

“I’m looking forward to meeting new people and learning about the cultures and aspirations. As well as the work we’ll be doing with the program, I expect it to be challenging but fun at the same time. I will also have the privilege to celebrate my birthday in a foreign country and I’m very excited about that.”

The group from Euregio Gesamtschule is led by Mr Thomas Worringer, who is a biology teacher and has been part of Duiregio since its establishment. Accompanying the members from De Duine will be Principal of De Duine Mr Van Wyk, Mrs Van Wyk, English teacher and De Duine coordinator, Mr Appolis, Afrikaans teacher and Mr Sakarias, Physical science teacher at De Duine.

Mr Sakarias says that he expects to see a totally different part of the world, the advanced technological state of the art industries, customer’s services, a variety of food items, new architecture. It will also be my first time flying, so that should be exciting.

In 2018, the group from Euregio Gesamtschule visited Namibia. During their visit, they started a garden, as one of their projects.

For the Namibian students to spread their wings, they need about N$15 000 to pay for their flights and all planned activities abroad. “We’re appealing to the business community, local community and former learners to take our hand in making this dream a reality for these learners. These learners were chosen based on their academic performance, and as well as those who has an opportunity to host the learners from Euregio”, Mrs van Wyk said.
