De Duine Secondary School is now proudly boasting with its own garden. Currently, growing in the garden is green peppers, onions, cabbage and strawberries. As part of the Duiregio partnership that exists between De Duine and Euregio Gesamtschule in Rheine, Germany, one of the main aims is to create awareness of sustainability. Through this partnership, learners from De Duine visit Euregio Gesamtschule and vice versa. While in Germany, learners from De Duine established a garden at their sister school. This project started in 2010, when the learners from Euregio first visited De Duine. The garden is run by Robert Appolis under the watchful eye of Mrs Van Wyk. The main idea is to connect the two schools by raising awareness that we need to protect and keep our environment clean and reduce our carbon footprint to ensure a better future for the next generation.
