Every day is a new opportunity to learn

Do not call it quits when you’re tired, stop when the job is done.

This is the credo of Bryan Kandjiriomuini, head of governance, risk and compliance (GRC) at the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (Namfisa).

After completing his matric at Centaurus High School in 2003, Kandjiriomuini enrolled for an accounting degree at the University of Namibia (Unam). He obtained his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2007.

“My aspiration was always to become a chartered accountant, I just never knew my career would take such a pleasant turn,” he says.

In 2008 he enrolled at Rhodes University in South Africa for his intermediate studies, in order to be able to qualify as a chartered tax adviser (CTA).

“After completing my intermediate studies, I attempted my CTA qualification with the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The University of KwaZulu-Natal partnered with the Polytechnic of Namibia and Unam for an initiative called ‘The Namibian School of Accounting’ at the time. This allowed students to do their CTA course without having to go to South Africa,” he said.

He started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 2010, where he completed his articles for three years. He was the auditing clerk, but later moved to the global fund department.

“At PwC I found my feet in this field. It taught me so much and I really saw myself grow in so many aspects of my career.

This is also where I met my mentor and greatest inspiration, Nangula Uaandja. She taught me everything I know to date and I will forever be inspired by her drive and determination,” Kandjiriomuini says.

He moved on to Namfisa in 2014, where he worked as a senior internal auditor until December 2017. He was later promoted to head of governance, risk and compliance.

“My biggest accomplishment in my career thus far has been obtaining my articles with PwC. That was a major shift in my career. The challenges were always few because I knew what I wanted. Obviously it is hard for everyone when you start at a new place, in a different environment,” he said.

Kandjiriomuini is an inquisitive, driven employee, who looks for every opportunity to learn and teach.

His hobbies include music, as he is a part of a choir. He also enjoys sport and travelling. His future plans include working towards his masters in accounting and he has also enrolled to study law, which is his first passion. He will study though the University of South Africa.
