Farewell, old friends…

Cari Mosehuus

Edugate Academy’s Grade 11 and Grade 12 pupils recently had their matric farewells. The Grade 12s were the final group to complete the old syllabus and the Grade 11s may get their Senior Secondary Certificate at the end of 2020, allowing them to continue with either AS-Levels or entering the world outside of school.

Learners who will end their schooling at the end of Grade 11 were taken into consideration in order or them to also have a matric farewell. This is just one of the advantages of being part of Edugate Academy: the minority is not neglected, and we strive to make everyone EduGREAT.

Both grades received their invitations in unique ways. The Grade 12s were ‘arrested’ in the school hall and transported to the parking area where they received their farewell invitations while the entire school was watching. Each one received their invitation with their favourite song playing in the background.

The Grade 11s went on a simulated flight in the school hall, while the ‘flight attendants’ gave them their ‘meals’ in the form of their invitations. All this while the entire school was present and joined in the fun festivities.

The grade 11 and 12 learners would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Jurita Potgieter and her team, including the Grade 11 class, for the preparations for the farewell that took place on 22 October. Mrs Hanlie van Zyl and her team, together with the Grade 10s, are also appreciated for seeing to it that 23 October was a night to be remembered long after it is done.

In this chaotic year, just the fact that we are able to have a matric farewell is such a blessing and privilege, and for that we’d like to thank the governing body of Edugate, that saw to this highlight of our school careers still being a viable option.

The class of 2020 describe themselves as blessed to be in a school that promises to educate the body, mind and soul, and always strives to form the ‘whole being’.
