Private School Swakopmund recently celebrated its 2019 Grade 12s, who are at the end of their school career, with the traditional valedictory service.

This formal occasion was marked by words of encouragement and good wishes for the future.

In her keynote speech Lelandri Jacobs, the former chairperson of the Student Representative Council SRC), highlighted that there are many challenges in life that lie ahead.

She said it was how learners handle these challenges that will define them and who they will become.

The award ceremony highlighted the many accomplishments of this versatile and talented group of students.

The best in maths and science award went to Karin Schommarz, while Simoné Scherer won the best in Afrikaans award.

The German first language award went to Nicole Reischauer-Buchert, while the biology award was scooped by Julian Nel.

The sportsman of the year award went to Wim van der Plas.

The subject marks and accomplishments were tallied over their entire high school career and therefore these are indeed amazing achievements.

The Dux student gong for 2019, which is an award for excellence, commitment and perseverance in the academic field, was awarded to Reischauer-Buchert.

A glamorous matric farewell with the theme ‘Night at the Oscars’ was held at the Rossmund Golf Club. The young ladies in stunning outfits and the young men in smart evening wear gave the evening a special flair.

Each learner was awarded a special Oscar and the food was delicious.

The learners also enjoyed the dancing. In addition, parents celebrated this special occasion with their children, which made it even more exceptional. We wish every matric student good luck with the final examinations and on their exciting journey through life.
