Girl power on the forefront

Rugby embraces beauty and femininity

The world of refereeing, highly dominated by boys and men, is now making room for the women. Last year, Bianca Erasmus and Megan Matthys, students at Berg Op Academy, attended a referee course and within a short span of time, they were certified to referee for junior rugby matches. The eager girls progressed further and participated in the shadowing of official referees as well as flag men. With guts and determination, on the 30th May to the 1st June, Bianca and Megan refereed their first official rugby matches. We, as a school, are proud to be represented by these girls with a bright future ahead of them as they pave the way for the future female referees and coaches.
