After a huge and successful Sport Day hosted by Duneside late in the 1st term, Duneside High School personnel and learners would like to say THANK YOU to each and every one that made the day turn out to be one of the biggest in a while.

We would like to say a special THANKS to Hangana Fish Shop, St. Gabriel Medics, Mr. Shimooshili, Mr. & Mrs. Saul, Mrs. A Beukes and Playtime Academy Coaches. Your contribution and assistance made a huge difference, and we appreciate your willingness and effort in making Duneside reach higher heights, and we believe that your support will always be consistant towards our school in all spheres.

THANK YOU to all our visiting schools; Narraville Primary School, Kuisebmond Primary School, !Nara Primary School, Tutaleni Secondary School and Playtime Academy. The day would not have been possible without the turn up and competition of your teams. A big THANKS and THUMPS UP to all coaches, learners and parents, which showed immense support. Dunsiders appreciate you!

From DHS to Nationals

The opportunity to wear national colours is a dream for many young sport athletes. Duneside is proud to have seven of their own representing our school as well as the country in different sport code competitions. Johannes Kanyangela (Athletics), Andrew Kalilo (Hockey), Westley Miller (Karate), Carlo Polizo(Karate), Anthony Palmer (Karate), Xavier Palmer (Karate) and Joy-lana Kabooy (Gymnastics) all fitted in the Namibian colours this year.

After a few stages of tight competition in the boys under 15 ‘high jump’, Johannes Kanyangela (15) slotted his spot in the national team at the Coca Cola National Competition during March. “Johannes the Jumper” competed in Manzini, Swaziland and got 4th place with a sensational height of 1.76 meters. Andrew Kalilo (14), made his mark when he proved to be “Super Drew” at the national hockey trials in Windhoek earlier in June, where he was selected to represent Namibia in Bloemfontein, South Africa in middle June.

Duneside High School Sport Day

On the 30 March, Duneside Private High School held our annual sports day whereby, different schools were invited to participate in different sports codes like soccer, netball, chess and tjokker rugby. Tjokker Rugby played by the junior primary boys, is also a code introduced to DHS by Mr. Scholtz for the first time in history. All schools played exceptionally well.

DHS hosted 5 visiting schools, of which there were about 50 teams for all sport codes that entered including DHS. We had more than 70 games for the day. Many parents came to support their little ones and had just as much fun in the sun. Everyone was amazed on how the chess players were concentrated and determined on winning the game.

The winners for chess were: Under 11 – Xavier Palmer from Duneside, under 13 – Tobias Hitananye from Duneside, Under 15 – Cameron Engelbrecht from Duneside and Under 19 – Archie Elikana also from Duneside. Competition was very tight on the Soccer and Netball pitches. All teams were just as hot as the sunny weather we had all day. Narraville Primary School dominated in soccer. They took home both championships for U/12 and U/13. In netball, Duneside High School won with an overall average of 52% of all their games. Hockey was only played by Duneside and Kuisebmond Primary School, of which both teams held each other in very close matches. There were no seriously injuries that our medics had to deal with. The day was a big success not only to Duneside, but to all the teams that were invited to the event as they got a chance to compete against other teams as well, to show off their different skills and talent and basically just enjoy the day with their friends from the community, with lots of fun, food and great music.
