Home away from home
Responsibility to motivate learners with a clean environment.

We have plenty of classes that are very tidy, neat and clean. Especially the language classes, these are classes you can find to be in the best condition. The most fun and organised class to be taught in is Mr Gertze’s classroom. Gertze started at Khomas High school a few months ago and he seemed to be spry at all times. According to the learners his class is always thoroughly clean. “We sometimes wish it was our home too,” said one of the learners. A class surrounded, corner by corner with motivational and educational posters is what really keeps learners interested. These are fine examples of how learners are becoming more visually oriented. The Gertze’s tables are arranged, row by row facing the chalkboard made it look spruce. To make his classroom gloomy, his windows are covered with green curtains. You can barely find pieces of papers on the floor in his class. Here is a compliment given by one learner that is fond of Mr Gertze’s class.’’I feel comfortable and it is beautiful, I feel very safe,’ ’said Queen Mashangu. According to her, not only is his class neat but you will also fine other classrooms such as Mrs Koopman’s and Mrs Bezuidenhout’s class which are really a testament to their love of teaching. A clean class opens pupil’s mind set to become keen on learning and enjoying the lesson. Everyone loves a clean environment more rather than being taught in a dirty one. “All children are entitled to education, thus driven by my passion in educating, I want my classroom to be a conducive environment for all learners,” said Gertze. He added that he wants the learners to be able to dream, feel safe and also take responsibility to keep their environment clean. “The class reminds students of why they come to school. Clean classrooms brings a healthy environment for learners.
