How Tucsin changed my life

Gabby Tjiroze
My name is Fernando Morkel and I am one of thousands of Namibians in whose life The University Centre for Studies in Namibia (Tucsin) made a significant difference.

It is with a deep sense of appreciation that I make use of this opportunity to thank Tucsin and the German Academic Exchange Service or DAAD for having come to my rescue by offering me a chance to pursue my studies and to make something of my life.

Not everybody gets a second chance to follow through with their dreams and make a difference, not only in terms of their own wellbeing, but for the people around them. Tucsin gave me the opportunity to do both. I look back and can’t thank the Tucsin team enough for the support that they provided. Whenever there might have been an issue, Martina Williams would always resolve it to ensure that I and other students would not have other concerns than our studies. Other Tucsin alumni can attest to this.

I thank you for being part of my studies and also for being part of building me into what and where I am today. I studied towards my Masters in Chemical Engineering at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). After the successful completion of my studies in 2017, I started working as a laboratory chemist at Husab Mine in Swakopmund. I have never looked back, except with the realisation of how blessed I was that Tucsin came on my path.

Congratulations to Tucsin on 40 years of good work and dedication. Young Namibians look forward to another 40 years.
