KHOMAS HOCHLAND HIKING TRAIL

Situated in close proximity to Windhoek, the Khomas Hochland Hiking Trail was officially opened in June this year.
The 90km-long trail meanders through magnificent scenery across five farms which are members of the Windhoek Green Belt Landscape initiative chaired by Johann Vaatz, the owner of Düsternbrook. The circular trail starts and ends at Düsternbrook Guest Farm and is hiked over six days. Daily distances range between 13km and 20km, but here is also a four-day route over 53km, as well as shorter day walks.
The route is clearly signposted with trail markers of gemsbok (oryx) tracks. Overnight facilities at the end of each day’s hike consist of a shade structure with a sandy base, shower and toilet. Firewood is supplied and each camp is equipped with pans and a kettle.
The minimum number of hikers is three, while the maximum number is 12.
