Lunatics, die gees van die skool

As 'n graad 10 Pro-Ed leerling, is Vrydagoggende se geesvang my gunsteling 30 minute van skool. Dit is 'n tyd waar die hele skool as een bymekaar kom. Die Lunatics is die skool se trots en help om eenvormigheid te bewerkstellig. Ek het met 'n paar lunatics en hul hoof 'n onderhoud gevoer om julle meer van die wonderlike groep te vertel.

Eerstens het ek met Myvonne Swart gepraat en vir haar gevra wat presies die Lunatics is. Hierop het sy geantwoord dat die dirigente wat hulself "The Lunatics" noem ’n groot verandering in die skool se gees teweeg wil bring - nie net op die sportvelde nie, maar selfs by kultuur en akademiese verrigtinge. 'n Lunatic in Afrikaans is ’n "kranksinnige" en dis presies wat Pro-Ed se dirigente is. Hulle is mense wat gees vinniger laat verpsrei as ’n veldbrand se vonke. Die Lunatics is ’n tradisie wat in 2019 begin het, en ons hoop dit sal nooit eindig nie.

Die eerste keer wat die Lunatics my volle aandag gehad het, was by ons skool se interhuiskompetisie. Elke span se dirigente het die spanne, Galjoen, Steenbras en Kabeljoue 'n lied laat saamsing om te kyk watter span die geesbeker sou wen. Hul het ons as skool ook ’n lied laat saamsing, en dit was besonders. Die skool het soos een gevoel met die grond wat vibreer van 750 leerlinge wat uit volle bors die skoollied sing.

Ek het ook die hoof van die Lunatics, Juffrou Janel Smit, gevra watter invloed sy dink Lunatics op die skool het. Sy het geantwoord, “die handelinge en ambisie van die Lunatics het ’n positiewe gevolg gehad. Dit aktiveer die leerling se gees en stig trots. Die goeie gees is besig om baie leerlinge entoesiaties te maak en ’n vuur binne-in almal se harte te laat brand.”

Nog iets wat ek vir Juffrou Janel gevra het was: "Hoe beplan julle om die skool se gees te verander?" Haar terugvoer was om "deur die verloop van termyn een verskillende aktiwiteite te doen. Ons is van plan om op sport, kulturele en akademiese gebiede te fokus en oral ondersteuning te bied. Die idee is om aandag te fokus op die verskillende gebiede sodat ons, as skool, mekaar kan ondersteun en bystaan in al die aktiwiteite. Ons is die skool met ’n verskil en ons wil die verskil by die leerlinge raaksien."

En dit is presies wat die Lunatics na Pro-Ed bring… ‘n verskil!

'n Verskil wat raakgesien word deur ander wat streef om soos ons te wees.

Retief Theron was volgende op die lysie met die vraag: "Wat behels die toekoms vir die Lunatics? Sy antwoord: "Die Lunatics het ’n baie groot invloed op die skool oor die feit dat ons alles bymekaar bring. Ons is die gees by kultuur-, sport- en gewone skoolbyeenkomste, so ons invloed op die skool is baie divers. Ons is ook die mense wat die skool se trots skep. Ons is die leerlinge wat verspot kan wees en al die ander leerders trots laat voel om in die skool te wees, want daar is altyd iemand daar om hulle te ondersteun.

Ek kan nie wag om te sien hoe hierdie oorspronklike tradisie oor die jare groei nie, en daarby die leerders se trots ook!
