The Mondesa Football Club has been in existence since 2018, catering for youth of different age groups at the coast.

The club was founded by three chefs who had the interest of the boys in the community at heart.

Based in Swakopmund, the club was rebranded in early 2020.

Mondesa Football Club has over 50 players - 20 in the senior team, 25 under- 17s and 18 under-15s.

The senior team age limit is 21, with an average age of 19. This team has competed in every tournament at the coast since last year and has reached two finals, three semi-finals and four quarter-finals.

Positive impact

The football club aims to positively impact the development of youth in the community and the country at large by providing soccer and life-enriching opportunities to young players.

Training sessions take place from Monday to Thursday with high spirits.

Festus Mathews, the assistant under-15 coach, said the boys are well disciplined and prepared to take on upcoming local competitions.

“In three to four months, we will have a good drill side strong enough to challenge for gold medals in local youth tournaments. The boys may be [of] small build, but they have speed and skills,” he said.

According to one of the head coaches Bafana Gaoseb, the under-17s have shown tremendous interest in football.

“The under-17 team, nicknamed Dynamic Boys, carry the name with pride. The team coach is 18 years of age and the team has managed to reach semi-finals in their first-ever local tournament that took place during the last weekend of February,” he said.

Soccer-obsessed

The head coach added that they offered individual training to the players during the lockdown.

“The players are obsessed with team activities as they call even on weekends they should be resting.”

Under-17 goalkeeper Restley Geiseb has been with the club for over a year now.

“I was always a substitute goalkeeper at previous teams and when I was introduced to Mondesa Football Club, they saw my potential and made me the first choice in my age group. In short, I can say the team has opened doors for me.”

The young player said he wants to make a living out of football and take it up as a career, and dreams to be an international goalkeeper one day.
