Nuwe Gebou, Nuwe Avonture by die Boababkampus

Pro-Ed Akademie se hoërskool gaan uiteindelik skuif na die perseel in Boababstraat langs Pro-Ed Akademie se Laerskool.

Die nuwe kampus bestaan uit 25 goed-toegeruste klasse en ’n moderne kombuis, rekenaarlokale en wetenskaplaboratorium. In elke klaskamer word ‘n gevorderde Wi-Fi netwerk geïnstalleer wat deel uitmaak van die skool se E-leer program en ook die sogenaamde flipped classroom inisiatief. Volgens Mnr Henry Mc Carthy (Bedryfshoof van Pro-Ed Akademie) is dit “‘n revolusionêre onderrigmodel wat ’n alternatief bied tot die tradisionele klasgee-model. Dit stel ’n leerstrategie voor waar die tradisionele onderrigmodel omgekeer word deurdat kandidate klasonderrigmateriaal na-ure aanlyn kan bestudeer terwyl huiswerk gedurende klasperiodes gefassiliteer word.”

Die Boababkampus sal voorts afsonderlike rekenaarlokale vir graad 8 tot 9 sowel as 10 tot 12 hê. Die perseel het ook administratiewe kantore vir ons interne sielkundige en departementshoofde.

Pro-Ed het in Oktober 2018 besluit om die skuif te maak toe Riverside Private School (die ou School of Exelence) aan Pro-Ed ‘n aanbod gemaak het om die bestaande hoërskool-kampus in Kramersdorf by ons te huur, asook die feit dat die kampus te klein geraak het vir die hoeveelheid leerlinge en personeel. Huidiglik groei die skool met 5% per jaar.

In 2017-2018 is die skoolsaal wat voorsiening maak vir sowat 1200 leerlinge reeds aangebou. Baie glansgeleenthede word tans hier gehou.

Die hoërskool is nog in aanbou, maar na verwagting behoort die hoërskool tussen Julie en Augustus 2019 betrek te word.

Op die nuwe skoolkampus is daar netbal-, rugby- en hokkievelde, waar leerlinge kan oefen en hulself gedurende pouses kan besig hou. Daar is ook ’n skaakbord geverf op die terrein waar skaakentoesiaste pouses kan oefen en speel.

Ons het onderhoude gevoer met ’n paar van die hoërskoolonderwysers en -leerlinge om hul gevoelens en gedagtes oor die skuif te toets.

Juffrou Janel: “Ek sien ongelooflik baie uit, omdat dit ’n geleentheid gaan skep waar ons, as skool, kan saamstaan om tradisies te bou. Dit gaan ’n uitdaging wees vir beide skole om op dieselfde perseel te wees, maar dit gaan ’n gevoel van samehorigheid bevorder om ons meer te laat voel soos Pro-Ed en nie soos Pro-Ed hoërskool en laerskool nie.‘‘

Danielle Lötter: “Ek sien uit daarna om na die nuwe skool te skuif omdat dit groter is en sy eie uniekheid het. Dit is ook nader vir diegene wat in daardie omgewing bly.”

Amber Engela: “Ek is baie opgewonde en dink dit is aanvaarbaar om langs die laerskool te wees, solank hulle net nie te veel inmeng by die hoërskool nie!“

Ruben le Roux: “Ek sien baie uit, maar ek voel dat die skeiding tussen die hoërskool en laerskool steeds nodig is. Daar is ’n verdere moontlikheid dat die gedrag en roetine kan verander asook die skooltye.“

Zeekurua Kangueehi: “I’m looking forward to the move because it will feel more like “our place” and we, as a school, will be able to create new traditions together. In my opinion, there will not be a difference because the high school and primary school will still be separated, but we will finally be a united Pro-Ed.”

Juffrou Andrea: ‘’Ek sien veral baie uit daarna om my nuwe klas mooi te maak. Verandering is altyd goed - hopelik wil my studente dan meer werk! Ek dink dit gaan ’n aangename aanpassing wees. Daar gaan ons beslis meer stemmetjies hoor en baie woeligheid hê op ons skoolterrein. Ons gaan ’n kreatiewe en goeie leeromgewing hê met baie energie. Ek dink ons gaan as skool “bond“ en saam tot hoër hoogtes groei op akademiese, sport en kulturele vlak.”
