“As a policy analyst in agriculture planning section, you are responsible for policy formulation and review as well as impact assessment of policies on the sector. The individual will be dealing with providing guidance on agriculture policies with Namibia agriculture policies being at the forefront of policy development in the sector,” explained Kaapehi.

Kaapehi is a policy analyst from the ministry of agriculture. “Ministerial and sectorial planning are also core activities which include developing of ministerial and sectorial plans and review them quarterly.”

According to Kaapehi, the policy analyst coordinate the planning and budgeting of ministerial development project and from time to time monitor and evaluate the implementation of project and assess the project impact on socio-economic of the Namibian population.

“In carrying out of this activity, one has to travel out of office either to collect data or visit projects or interview stakeholders in the agricultural sector or hold consultative and/or validation workshops to solicit inputs from stakeholders among other things.”

Kaapehi was inspired to take up this job because he came from an agriculture background as he grew up on a farm that ventured in livestock rearing in the Okakarara constituency.

Kaapehi says one needs to have a good understanding of agricultural industries and the sector at large and a good knowledge of various disciplines within agriculture to work in the industry.

His highlights include policy development, implementation of projects and policies and monitoring and the evaluation missions.
