Twapandula Junior Primary School, close to the Oshakati main road, offers pre-primary until grade six to children in the vicinity, and is home to 179 learners. According to Arno Stein, the “demand for education is high and the willingness of the students quite enormous. “Unfortunately, the amenities are desolate and to some extent non-existing.”

A lot has been done so far, including the construction of a makeshift classroom by community volunteers. The classroom is equipped with desks and chairs, and provides shelter against the harsh environment while giving the learners a sense of school.

Some businessmen and -women provided drawing books, along with grade one to four introduction material, pens and paper to fulfil basic education needs.

Supa Batt Windhoek, which is the only Willard battery express outlet in Namibia, together with its franchisor, Powerbat Namibia (Pty) Ltd, decided to help alleviate the shortcoming of electricity and the possibility to use mobile media and modern computer techniques for educational means.

Together, they sponsored a 2 Kw off-grid system (2 000 Watt battery assisted electric power), which will enable the staff at the school to make use of printers, copiers, computers, safety night spray lights and basic electricity.

The items, which are highly specialised, need to be protected from vandalism and theft and are thus secured in a welded metallic container with a steel pole.
