Highline Secondary School in Windhoek offers Mandarin as a subject at their school. The school is one of the first schools to teach Mandarin it is also the first school to create a Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Fund. Chinese ambassador to Namibia, Zhang Yiming attended the launch of the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship at the school’s award ceremony that took place 9 March which was attended by teachers, parents and learners. the scholarship fund for Highline Secondary School learners is is to assist learners with paying their school fees, buying school uniforms as well as books and stationery in order for them to be able to finish their academic year successfully. During his speech he also encouraged the teachers and students to understand the history of the friendship between China and Namibia and the fruitful results of their bilateral cooperation. He also shared his personal experience about he became a diplomat and encourages students to take ownership of their future by focusing on their education. Mesag Kandjii, a member of the student representative council, thanked the Chinese embassy for offering scholarships by speaking in fluent Mandarin. The students also performed Chinese songs.
