The Zone team asked the Ella Du Plessis editorial team how it feels to be back at school at full capacity, and how they are adhering to the Covid-19 regulations.

“Being back at school is nice, mostly because we missed out on a lot of work. I am happy to be back again because at least we are learning something, even if I may not be prepared for exams, at least I learned a few things. In terms of the Covid-19 regulations, we are adhering to it but some learners still do not take it seriously unless they have lost someone to Covid-19. But we who know how it feels, we do adhere to the Covid-19 regulations.”

Elizabeth

“It’s great because I finally have something to keep me busy. Most of the time I was mostly sleeping but now I have something productive to do. We do adhere to the Covid-19 regulations but there are certain children who do not fully understand what Covid-19 is. So, it is hard for them to respect the regulations.”

Ngundji

“It feels great to be back at school. During the pandemic we did not really get time to study and go through our notes, but now that we are back to school full time, we are learning and catching up with everything that we were behind with. I am very grateful to be back to school full time. In terms of the regulations, we are social distancing. But there are some of our classmates that says, Covid-19 does not exist. We wear our mask 24/7 and we do sanitise.”

Aina

“I feel so good that we are back at school, since we can now catch up with a lot of stuff. We can complete our work so that we can write our final exams. We do adhere to the regulations but then we still have kids who believe Covid-19 does not exist. You only get to know if Covid really exists if someone close to you gets the virus and you can see how they react to the virus.”

Emeryne

“I am very excited to be back at school at full capacity. I really got tired of staying at home and seeing the same thing every day. I am just happy to be back. Yes, we are adhering to the protocols in place. But for others it is a bit hard to stay away from hugging the person that you missed the most.”

Martin Edward

“It feels great to be back at school because now I am back behind the books. Most of us are adhering to the protocols but I still see some of my fellow learners who are wearing their masks under their nostrils.”
