Wetenskap g’n vervelig!

Die tema vir vanjaar se wetenskapweek was “ Food Revolution”.

"Ons wil hê ons lande moet wetenskapuitvinders hê." - Gloria Simubali, adjunk- permanente sekretaris.

Die Goethe-Institut Namibia het sy tweede wetenskapweek van 1 tot 4 Oktober aangebied.

Sowat 500 leerlinge van meer as 16 skole is op 'n reeks aktiwiteite en flieks getrakteer.

Wetenskapweek 2018 is deur die ministerie van myne en energie aangebied.

Vennote hierin het ingesluit die adjunk- permanente sekretaris van die Verenigde Nasies se Opvoedkundige, Wetenskap- en Kultuurorganisasie (Unesco), die Namibiese Universiteit van Wetenskap en Tegnologie (Nust), die Wêreldvoedselprogram (WFP), die Nasionale Kommissie vir Navorsing, Wetenskap en Tegnologie (NCRST), die Namibiese Wetenskaplike Vereniging (NSS) en die Nasionale Aardwetenskapmuseum (NESM).

Die wetenskap-filmfees het kort, insiggewende flieks aangebied oor verskeie wetenskaplike onderwerpe en hoe dit in die alledaagse lewens van mense van toepassing is.

Jaarliks lok dié fees meer as ’n miljoen mense in meer as 20 lande wêreldwyd.

Dit maak dit die grootste van sy soort ter wêreld.

In samewerking met plaaslike vennote bevorder die fees wetenskaponderrig deur fliekvertonings en verskeie ander aktiwiteite.

Die wetenskap-filmfees se sukses bewys wetenskap is nie net droë teorie nie.

Vickey Cado, direkteur van die geologiese opname van Namibië, het gesê die hoofdoel van die wetenskapweek was om leerlinge by wetenskap te betrek en om openbare bewustheid daarvan te bevorder.

"Ek waardeer die skole wat die tyd geneem het om aan wetenskapweek deel te neem," het Cado gesê.

Die adjunk- permanente sekretaris, Gloria Simubali, het gesê wetenskapweek het ??uit die wetenskapfilmfees en toepaslike wetenskapsaktiwiteite bestaan en het ten doel gehad om wetenskapgeletterdheid te bevorder.

"Hierdie projek het jongmense die geleentheid gegee om te oorweeg om 'n loopbaan in wetenskap te volg," het sy gesê.

Verlede jaar het sowat 270 leerlinge die fees bygewoon, en vanjaar het dié getal gegroei tot sowat 600 leerlinge uit 17 skole, wat selfs skole van Oranjemund af insluit.

Junior Booysen, 'n graad 7 aan Laerskool Van Rhyn, het gesê ander skole moet ook aan die ervaring deelneem.

"Ons het baie goed in 'n kort tyd geleer, soos oor hidroponika en hoe om kettings met kalsium te toets. My gunsteling-eksperiment was die vulkaniese uitbarsting," het hy gesê.
