The tournament attracted a total of 18 players which six were girls and 12 boys.

Speaking at the tournament Heiko Fleidl, tournament instructor, said table tennis backs to the early 60s when it officially started as a national sport.

“The youth trophy go back to 1985 when the first one was awarded and table tennis was one of the grounding sports of the Namibia Sports Commission,” he said.

He added that the sport is something the sport commission is very proud of and the future of table tennis is very bright.

“I think that it is the positive thing about the sport, we might have small number of participants but it is something that we can grow with a bit of support from various industries,” he said.

Fleidl further said they would like to send their players all over the world to represent Namibia in table tennis and perform well, and show the talent young tennis players have.

Raica Coelho a tennis player from DHPS who managed to scoop a gold medal in the u/13 girls category said she it was a tough competition but she is glad she managed to pull through to first place.
