KEETMANSHOOP- On Tuesday, 7 July, Keetmanshoop governor Aletha Frederick, alongside the ministry of health and the security cluster, started with a campaign to urge the community of Keetmanshoop and the //Karas Region to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Frederick said the community must stand together with the government during these difficult times.

"These are staggering numbers when you consider that during the past months, this virus has touched every corner of the globe and changed the course of history," she said.

She said while vaccines protect people from the worst of this virus, even those who are vaccinated can become sick and spread it.

Youth take a stand

The Nanso regional executive committee joined the governor on a campaign that will allow them to educate the community about the importance of getting vaccinated.

"We want to highlight the importance of staying safe during times like this. The youth is the largest demographic in the land and therefore we feel that the young people should play a bigger part in educating the nation," said Innocent Pieter, member of the governor's office.

According to Frederick, the number of people who went for their first vaccination is far more than the number of people who went back for the second.

"Vaccination uptake is still very low, so far we have only vaccinated 5 136 (5%) people in our region. This is mainly due to false and misinformation on social media on the vaccination. We still have vaccines available in the region; let us make the choice to get vaccinated, for our benefit and that of our community," she said.
