On Friday, 23 January Augustineum Secondary School held its tekkie day organised by the learners’ representative council (LRC). The learners were filled with excitement as they would have to wear other shoes rather than the regular black school shoes. Looking at the bottoms learners wore shoes ranging from all stars, Nike tekkies to puma tekkies amongst many others.

Tekkie day is merely a fun day for the school. On the same day learners get to throw each other with colour powder. The day also brings out the art and culture as well as talents with the artistic face paintings. Another exciting event for this day is the dances by the learners.

The Grade 8 learners were happy to see the fun part of high school as on the same day they undergo their Grade 8 orientation. The new bundles of the school had to wear their uniform inside out, the girls had to cover their hair with plastic while the boys were given nametags and they had to carry bricks as babies.

The learner who wore the most attractive tekkies in each grade for the day walked away with a prize. The prize was a Nike bag pack sponsored by the LRCs. The winners came from the grades namely; 8A, 9C, 10B, 11D and 12C.

The day was filled with joy and many learners can’t wait to encounter it again.
