Auditing his way to the top

Lamek Tangeni Lamek is an internal auditor at the Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF).

He is responsible for applying the principles of auditing, analysing financial information and preparing audit reports, by executing the audit process.

He provides assurance and consulting services on the adequacy and effectiveness of control, risk management and governance processes to senior management and the audit committee, while supervising audit teams and performing forensic audits.

Lamek holds a masters’ in business administration, a postgraduate degree in internal auditing, a BTech in accounting and finance, a national diploma in cost accounting and national certificate in forensic auditing.

Before joining GIPF, Lamek worked at the Namibian police as a chief internal auditor from 2005 until 2008. He then moved over to NamPower as an internal auditor from 2008 until 2012.

Since 23 May 2012 to date, Lamek has been employed at GIPF as an internal auditor.

In 2018 he became the audit committee chairperson at the ministry of safety and security and holds the post to date.

Lamek told Careers that one of the challenges he faces at his workplace is cybersecurity; he thus plans to overcome this challenge by gaining knowledge and training in this field.

He said everyone is unique in his or her own way. His train of thought and the way he does things is a huge bonus, in terms of the way he handles challenges.

He is inspired by honesty and hard work and urges young people to maintain a solid social fabric.

He says continuous self-development, self-confidence, being god fearing and hardworking are components for a successful life.

Lamek plans on pursuing a doctorate in business management, as well as career development and family expansion.

Besides being in the office he enjoys reading and doing sporting activities in his free time.
