The Gommies of 2019 held their annual Gommie concert on the 6th of February 2019. This concert plays a big role in their journey to becoming a Gimmie.

This brilliant concert was written by the head girl, Marn Rickert. She worked hard on this script which she started to write it in 2018 already. “I discovered my love for theatre in my early high school years and once I did, I was always on the lookout for things with optimal entertainment value. I wanted to write something that everyone would enjoy not only watching, but also playing in.

Rickert said that the play meant a lot to not only the actors partaking but the crowd as well. “I could see that every single Gommie enjoyed what they were doing on stage and the crowd definitely loved it as well. What a blessing to have such an amazing LRC group who put in so much effort to make it work on stage.”

The Gommies who starred in the concert buzzed with excitement to perform. Amy Links said, “It was exciting as well as amazing to work with the LRC. Although the practices were tiring, they made it fun and exciting. The practices were full of laughter. When the nerves were high, they were there to give us motivation and support. I could have never asked for better prefects. Working with them is a memory I`ll cherish forever.” When Links was asked if she enjoyed the night of the performance she answered, “Of course! I was really nervous. However, all that hard work finally paid off in the end. It was an unforgettable evening full of laughter and excitement. That night not only made us smile but it drew us closer to our LRC. It is a night that I`ll never forget.”

Obviously, the LRC had a big role to play in the concert. LRC member Andrea Vermeulen stressed the impact of this concert on the relationships between the grade 8’s and the LRC. “The Gommie concert’s preparations definitely had its ups and downs. I enjoyed it, because the LRC built a great bond and we all grew a lot closer together every day. We also got to know so much about the grade 8`s and got a better understanding of each of their personalities. We had a huge amount of fun working on the different acts. At times, it was hard because we had to sacrifice a few hours each day and the Gommies were not always easy to control.”
