Set-Son Shifidi creates his own legacy, by making sure he lives his passion and that he contributes effectively as a citizen.

Shifidi is the technical electrical executive at Lithon Project Consultants. He is also a partner at the company and has been with them since 2015.

He graduated with his masters of science in engineering (electrical) degree from the University of Stellenbosch and then embarked on a rather exciting journey.

“If you aspire to career growth, you can't be complacent. Where you are today is a reflection of the education and skills that got you there. The question is: Where do you want to be tomorrow? You won't get there by coasting on what you already know. The key is therefore continuous learning,” he says.

“One needs to choose the course at the right institution and you have to study hard to attain the qualification.”

Shifidi also obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Certificate in Project Management, both from the University of Stellenbosch. His qualifications helped him to land a head of electrical job at Lithon Project Consultants.

He is a passionate and determined worker, who welcomes every opportunity to be taught and to teach.

His duties at Lithon include meeting client requirements with engineering solutions, project management on multidisciplinary engineering projects and the facilitation of contracts, to name a few.

“I feel like I was born for it. I was always just passionate and curious to observe how things worked. I was always taking things apart to see how they operated and I loved building things.

“In school, I also did well in science and maths, so engineering just made sense,” he said.

He says in his line of work, one has to be a critical thinker, very inquisitive and resourceful.

“Some of the highlights in my career thus far include working as an engineer at different levels and functions at NamPower for over 14 years. Currently, I am also serving as a trustee and the investment committee chairperson for the Mergence Investment Fund,” he said.

His future aspirations are to stay in the engineering industry for the next few years, but also to do justice to his second passion, which is investments and banking.

He enjoys sport, reading and spending quality time with family and friends.
