De Duine Secondary School held their annual orientation concert for the grade 8’s in the school hall on 5th of February 2020. The night was a huge success. The theme for this event was “Ampiano Dance”. The grade 8’s performed all type of dances and some even performed a play or two. The atmosphere was phenomenal to be in. You could see on the faces of the grade 8’s that they really enjoyed what they were doing, but unfortunately it was a contest so there could only be one winner. The class that performed the best was 8C, Ms. Maswahu’s class. They are the reigning champs for the past four years now. Our judges was no other than Ms. Kaoses teacher at the school, Narraville’s own Afrikaans Rapper, Ixa and former learner Delano Jansen. This event wouldn’t be possible without the help of the grade 8 teachers, the LRC’s that trained with the learners and our very own Mrs. Koning.

The next day on the 6th everyone that participated in the concert along with the LRC’s and the teachers went to Dolphin Park. They had a splendid time. The LRC’s prepared the food for the different classes. The winning class got to ride on the big blue or green hydro-slide for free. According to Jeremiah Hageman the day was “lekker” and he absolutely enjoyed himself. He had so much fun playing with his friends in the swimming pool and playing soccer on the grass. Demi Knowles said that the water was excellent and her day was indeed amazing. She took so much photos with her friends and the food was also delicious. Everyone including the teachers had a fun day. The day went by without any injuries or problems.

On Monday the 10th of February. The grade 8’s were officially welcomed to the school. They held a small function in the morning where they cut the ribbon and let go of the balloons. They were no longer “Groentjies” but they were part of the school. They entered the gate with pride wearing their school uniform.
