DLT for you

From the 7th – 8th June 2019, Academia had its annual leadership camp named Demia Leadership Training (DLT). It is a school tradition whereby LRC’s train the future leaders (grade 11’s) hot to be great leaders.

Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization to make it cohesive and coherent. Before you become a leader, success is all about yourself, but when you become a leader success is all about giving your subordinates an opportunity of growth. This why we have this camp every year to build on their leadership skills and abilities.

During DLT, the LRC’s came up with numerous activities to teach the grade 11’s the importance of teamwork, perseverance and hard work. they taught them the importance of teamwork perseverance and hard work. They had to work as teams in most activities, an example is the activity in which they had to build the strongest and most firm tower out of marshmallows and spaghetti sticks. In the end they learned that certain situations require creative thinking.

Apart from DLT being a leadership camp, it is also an opportunity for seniors to build a stronger bond and just get to know each other better. Activities such as the name game helped them to familiarize themselves with each other and see one another more as friends than acquaintances. They had fun and stepped out of their comfort zones by talking to people they never thought they would to before.one of the learners that attended the event, Kimberly Kauejo says, “my most difficult experience was when I had to put effort in most of the activities we did and got punished for my teammates’ lack of perseverance.”

DLT was a success because the grade 11’s learned in many ways that leaders without teamwork will never achieve anything. Many of them first felt that it was torture but at the end of the say learned that it is easy to judge a leader from an outside point of view but the real thing is a very daunting task. Being a leader is synonymous with becoming yourself, and thus a new batch of self-confident leaders was created in both a professional and fun way.
