Late second trimester keen learners of NHS made their intriguing play public. “Die Regentrude” written by German Poet Theodor Storm was directed by NHS teacher Mrs. Lang. With rehearsals taking place in the course of the first and second school term, actors had to find the balance between the merrymaking and their actual academic missions. Nonetheless all went well as the cast delivered an excellent performance to a diverse crowd of German and non-German speaking people.

The success of the play was visible as the number of people who attended was beyond expectation, on both evenings. The audience closely followed the storyline of the Rainlady who fell asleep and no longer providing for the anxious communities. With no rainfall, the Firedevil took advantage and became the author of havoc and destruction. Fortunately, Andreas (Daniel Seidler) and Chantelle (Juline Justus) saves the day as they tricked the Firedevil to reveal the spell to awaken the Rainlady. Further characters include Ayden Berg as farmer as well as Ben Gebauer as firefighter.

The aim of the cast was to make their high school memorable thus laughter and fun were never far. With the ups and downs they stayed contempt in their work and friendships now shine even brighter. For the upcoming NHS theatre productions even more German foreign language learners are prompted to cast in the German plays.

This specific play made the cut as it closely depicts the water crisis in Namibia. It brings light to the situation in a humorous way. “This story from North Germany was suitable for Namibia which also suffers from drought. It would be fantastic if we could also ban the drought with a suitable saying or rhyme”, said Mrs. Lang. The actors were astonishing and the storyline could easily be followed. Notwithstanding a limited amount of props and lighting, the available resources were effectively used to support the dramatization of the characters. With Ms. Gebauer responsible for the colourful costumes the play had the extra effect.

The NHS family looks forward to yet another amazing showcase. “Thank you for everyone who took part and all those who supported us. A special thanks to Mrs. Lang for her huge effort and belief in us” said Daniel Seidler.
