The fourth Namibia Media Holdings (NMH) media camp took place this weekend and hosted 65 learners from 25 schools, representing 7 regions across the country.

The aim of the camp is to give high school learners that are part of the NMH school newspaper editorial teams, media training that will equip them with vital media skills and open doors to a future in the media industry. During the course of the weekend, learners explored elements of multimedia journalism, photojournalism, media ethics and editorial design.

During the camp, learners had the opportunity to meet the editors and news editors of Namibian Sun, Republikein and Allgemeine Zeitung and could engage with them during round table discussions. Participants also had the chance to work with the newest information technology and had the chance to shoot, edit and publish their own videos and film aerial shots with a drone.

“Looking at the number of talented young journalists, photographers and designers attending the camp, I am certain that the future of the media industry in Namibia is in good hands,” said Albe Botha, CEO of NMH, at the camp.

This media camp was made possible through the partnership of FNB, Old Mutual and Namport.

We have dedicated this issue of The Zone to showcase the best news articles written by learners on the camp give them a platform to express how they experienced the weekend. These articles can be read on page 4 and 5. Page 6 and 7 are two dedicated photo pages that showcase the some of the highlights of the weekend.
