Ndama Nakaloshe, a financial journalist says her duties involve looking out for trending financial issues on which to report on. “I also attend press conferences on business and economics topics. My job also includes going through figures such as financial statements of companies, trade statistics and other numbers that matter. I engage with economists and analysts for views on certain issues,” says Nakaloshe.

Nakaloshe has always loved numbers, news and writing so to her, financial journalism is both a career and a hobby.

“I was trained of basic journalism skills by a very well equipped professor from a reputable South African university Franz Kruger and a veteran journalist Gwen Lister back in 2013,” she recalls. According to her, this has helped her lot in learning how to put her words together and create readable pieces.

Nakaloshe is a qualified economist with a diploma in Economics from the University of Namibia (Unam). “My time in the Economics class at Unam made me understand the whole topic of economics better and be comfortable with numbers.”

“Financial journalism requires a lot of willingness to learn because new things keep popping up. I believe in passion. So if you love numbers, writing and news in general, you may want to consider financial journalism as a career,” she says.
