A Game Ranger is responsible for the management of the game reserve. They work with ecologists, game reserve and wildlife managers.

Their tasks are multi-faceted and include; ensuring the day to day health and well-being of the game, research and monitoring, game capture and introductions, population management, burning programs, infrastructure and equipment maintenance, public relations, environmental education, and, crucially, local community relations, liaison and involvement.

Kweku Schimming-Chase a professional is a tour guide, junior and senior consultant and operations manager with an experience of 12 years.

Requirements needed for this type of career is a national qualification one can do to become a Game Ranger. You would need to do a National Diploma in Nature Conservation or Game Ranch Management. Most are 3 years long, 2 years theory and 1 year practical.

The character traits one needs to pursue this career is structured insanity Kweku says. ‘’You need to love this business, for all the joy and beauty we see around it requires a lot of hard work, you need to be able to have a lot of empathy and be able to hear what the client wants as well as commitment to yourself above everything else’’, he says.

Kweku advised the young aspiring people who want to pursue this type of career is look more into the new form of tourism which is the fastest growing part in tourism industry in the world at the moment which is called wellness tourism.
