Griffel dit neer voor hy weghol

Juan Botha- Die Waltons-Griffel Skryfkompetisie is terug vir 2020 en die tyd het aangebreek om weer al jou gedagtes neer te pen. Karakters kry lewe, nuwe ruimtes word ontdek en almal raak verlore in hulle eie stories. Maar genoeg van die fantasie waarin jong skrywers leef, wat sê die res omtrent die Griffel-avontuur?

Volgens me. Henriëtte van Wyk, die stigter van die kompetisie, is Griffel geskep vir jong skrywers om uiting te kan gee aan hulle diep gevoelens, om Afrikaans te bevorder en om Afrikaanse onderwysers te ondersteun. Die skrywer besluit self op die tema onder die genres van kortkuns (beskrywing, mymering, dagboekinskrywing, dialoog, ens.) en/of poësie. Die enigste beperking van Griffel is die woordbeperking. Graad 5 tot 7 se kortkuns mag nie 500 woorde oorskry nie, terwyl graad 8 en 9 se maksimum 700 is. Laastens is graad 10 tot 12 beperk tot ’n 1000 woorde.

Van Wyk sê Griffel neem die skrywer se stories tot hoër hoogtes en kan die droom van ’n opkomende skrywer laat realiseer. Skrywers kry ook objektiewe kommentaar van die beoordelaars wat hulle in staat stel om hulle skryfvaardighede verder te slyp. Om alles te kroon kan enige Namibiese skolier wat Afrikaans Huistaal neem via hulle Afrikaans-onderwyser inskryf.

Van Wyk is oortuig die Griffel-beoordelaars is uit die room van Namibië se Afrikaans-woorde-woeker-emmer opgemaak - prof. Aldo Behrens, dr. Chrisna Beuke-Muir, dr. Nicolene Woest, dr. Dolores Wolfaard, mee. Petronella Genis, Emma Kichner, Joey Dreyer, Kleintjie Muller, Petro Muller, Susan Alexander, Aiwee Hyman-Van Wyk, Cornel Symington, Anneli van der Merwe, Ina van der Walt en Henriëtte van Wyk. Daar bestaan dus geen twyfel ten opsigte van die kwaliteit van die wenstukke of die kommentaar nie.

Volgens ’n 2019-naaswenner van die graad 8 en 9 kortkuns-afdeling, dra Griffel by tot die ontwikkeling van kinders omdat dit kinders motiveer om beter te skryf en hulle toelaat om te sien waar hulle foute lê. Sy sê sy is baie opgewonde vir Griffel 2020. Me. Petronella Genis, een van die beoordelaars, sê Griffel bied ’n goeie geleentheid vir kinders en dat dit lekker is om te sien hoe die jeug met Afrikaans woeker.

Laastens het die skoolkoerant van Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool, Waprant, vir Van Wyk gevra of 2020 ’n groot jaar vir Griffel gaan wees. “Nou ja, niemand kan die toekoms voorspel nie, maar statistieke openbaar tog interessante feite.”

Hiermee word verwys na die rekordgetal van 226 skryfstukke wat in 2016 ontvang is. Sy hoop die deelnemers van 2020 kan op daardie Griffel-spore verbeter.

Van Wyk deel verder ook ʼn finale gedagte vir 2020 se Griffel: “Mag menige jong skrywer en digter sy stem laat hoor, sy storie vertel, sy paaie van die hart en verstand in woorde verewig wat verder as net die Afrikaanse klas eggo.”
