Health and Wellness Week at Rehoboth Private

The Rehoboth Private School believes that education is the means to a better life, because it sensitize and empower learners to earn their livelihood and increase their awareness on a range of issues – from healthcare to appropriate social behaviour to understanding their health rights. Education is the most effective tool which helps children build a strong foundation; enabling them to free themselves from the vicious cycle of ignorance, poverty and disease.
The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture undertakes school awareness programs to involve maximum learners and spread awareness about HIV and AIDS and other illnesses.
Various health issues related to children are taken up during the awareness programs. HIV and AIDS is an increasing disease and to make children aware they are told what HIV and AIDS is and how they can protect themselves from it.
Different activities like visits from the community health practices, role plays, poem recitation, talks and discussions are also held to help children understand the issues more effectively.
In addition, the programme reinforced and deepened what is learned in subjects such as Life Science and Life Orientation.
Adolescents and young people are particularly vulnerable to HIV and an important target of HIV prevention programmes.
Therefore, the discussions empowered and sensitized learners not only to absorb the learning, but also voice their opinions and speak out against the discrimination concerning HIV/AIDS and other none communicable illnesses, such as Cancer, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Cholesterol and etc.
The Health Awareness Week programmes seek to protect young people from HIV infection and sexually transmitted diseases as well as prevent teenage pregnancies. Learners now have the knowledge, skills, and are motivated to make informed decisions regarding their future choices especially concerning their lifestyle and sexuality.
