Lineekela Shalongo has always believed in being the best in the room, even when the room is full of males, which is often the case in her field.

She was born and raised in the Land of the Brave and grew up in Oranjemund, but attended high school in Windhoek at Jan Mohr High School.

Upon completion of her Grade 12, she studied at Nust, then called the Polytechnic of Namibia, where she chose Information technology as her field, while majoring in business computing.

“In order for me to fully complete my degree, I had to do an internship in my final year.

“I was privileged to have done my internship with the German International Corporation (GIZ). I obtained my certificate as a network support technician (N+) at the Institution of Information Technology (IIT) and further obtained an honours degree in IT, majoring in web informatics at Nust,” Shalongo says.

She was employed as a temporary staff member at Namcor in the same year she graduated.

When the position became a permanent post, Shalongo applied and eventually got the job and is still currently employed as an IT technical & helpdesk technician. She has been with the company for the past four years.

Work environment

“Working at Namcor has been by far one of the best experiences I ever encountered. Due to the nature of my job, and because I am always working with people, I am forced to always look at things in a positive way, ensuring there is minimal to no service disruption and ensuring service uptime availability,” she says.

“One thing that keeps me motivated is ensuring customer satisfaction through value delivery to businesses, with the services that we offer. Hence, I look forward to the challenges and opportunities to learn and improve my customer service skills.”

Her short-term goals include improving the quality of service delivery through customer feedback, prioritising, meeting and exceeding her targets/activities and learning a new set of skills to develop her knowledge and understanding of the IT environment and the oil and gas industry.
