Nust appoints new vice-chancellor

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) Council has appointed Dr Erold Naomab as vice-chancellor. This appointment will be effective from January 2021. He is expected to serve for a term of five years.

Naomab holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in plant science from the University of Nottingham, a Master of Research (MRes) in strategic resource management (distinction) dfrom Nottingham Trent University, Master of Science (MSc) (cum laude) from the University of Namibia, and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from the University of Namibia.

Dr Naomab has won the following professional awards: Higher Education Leadership Award from the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Commonwealth Professional Fellow (2020), funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), candidate for the 2018-2019 German African Innovation Incentives award (BMBF Germany), University of Nottingham Travel Prize (2007), Chancellor’s Medal, best student, University of Namibia, Vice-Chancellor’s Medal, best post-graduate student, University of Namibia, Alumni Association Best Student Award, University of Namibia.

The Nust Council says Dr Naomab brings a wealth of strategic and visionary leadership skills, extensive academic experience, research and development skills in science and technology and a strong drive for innovation to take the university to the next level.

His fundraising abilities and strategic networking skills with development institutions, private sector, international community and the local public sector will be a great asset to Nust.

The Council thanked Dr Niikondo for his leadership over the past six months at the helm of Nust. He will return to his substantive position of deputy vice-chancellor for academic affairs in January 2021.
