The Junior Primary Athletics was held in junction with Westside's long awaited Raffle draw. It went down recently at the Vineta Sports Fields. The parents attended the athletics to support their children showed up in great numbers. Amongst the parents was the lucky winner of the grand prize the Quad Bike which was scooped up by Mr. Efraim Mbauu.

I approached HOD Mrs. Viviers for a quick interview regarding how the Raffle draw which was oncoming since last year went:

Q; Who came up with and organized the raffle draw?

A; Grade 2 teacher, Mrs. Lennitch who is also head of the Events Committee came up with the idea to have a raffle draw. The organizing of everything was dealt by mainly by the events committee. They are a group of teachers as well as parents and schoolboard members who plan functions in order to raise money for the school fund.

Q; How were the different prizes obtained?

A; Well, the Event's Committee approached some of the larger companies and businesses and asked for sponsorships. So a lot of the prizes were obtained in this way. But most of the smaller things were all pooled in by the teachers who all gave in a little something here and there. Getting the prizes was a collective effort from all the teachers.

Q; Was raising funds the only aim of the Raffle draw?

A; It was definitely the main idea behind it all, as our school is in dire need of funds to keep operational. But teambuilding between the teachers, parental involvement in the school, building school pride amongst the learners and to allow the parents who would like to contribute to the school to contribute in this way are a few other reasons why we held the raffle draw.

Q; In your opinion, was it a success?

A; Any funds we manage to raise is a success for Westside, we made enough to fix certain things that needed attention and so yes, I can say that it was pretty successful. But in future, more support from our parents would be highly appreciated as I know we could've done much better if more people pitched in.

Q; So does that mean WHS plans on making it an annual thing?

A; Yes, it is a good way to make money and even if it’s not that big every year, we'll surely keep doing it in the years
