Normally we don’t complain about waking up early for school but in the last year it gets to you. I would love for school to start later. Especially when we have to write tests first thing in the morning. I struggle badly with anxiety and for me to get over that, it takes time.

Hambeleleni Kamati: year 10

I personally feel like school starts very early. Everyone has personal agendas, plus many of us have afternoon duties. Studying for tests and doing homework takes up a lot of time and waking up at 5 just doesn’t allow us to get enough rest.

Josefina Shatumbu: year 10

Throughout the school day I feel very tired but I still prefer waking up earlier for school and going home earlier. I don’t see the point of starting school later and ending it later. I think we should all consider the real benefits of starting school earlier.

Danielle Kriess: year 10

I’m actually very happy with school starting times at the moment. Unfortunately, I stay in Swakopmund, which makes it a bit difficult to wake up so early and catch the bus. But I still prefer waking up earlier and ending school earlier.

Allison Jalon: year 8

I’m always tired. If school could start at 9 am, I’m sure students would benefit from some extra hours of sleep. Even if I have to stay 2 hours longer at school, the reward seems more promising.

Anna Ndara: year 10

School starts way too early. Some of us have other responsibilities and sometimes we only get home at 6pm. As part of the Junior City Council I have to juggle a lot and only get to do my homework late at night. If school started later I would be less tired and more efficient in class.

Tiara Shiindi: year 9

It takes me forever to wake up, if school could just start later I would be willing to stay longer at school. I would be more focused in class and I’m sure the same applies to my fellow classmates.

Tihomir Oliveira Texeira, year 11

Students are extravagantly late and unproductive in classrooms. School should start at least 30 minutes to one hour later, this will result in more productivity in classrooms and create a better learning environment which will lead to good academic reputation for the school.

Kundayi Muganga, year 8

If we went to school later it would end later and I don’t want to miss lunch time with my family. Some of us might also have a lot of homework and ending school at two means less time to study.

Markus Ndjamba: year 10

Why can’t school start later? As students we will have enough time to freshen up, clear our minds and get in the mood for school. Ending school an hour or two later doesn’t seem all that bad either. I believe starting school at 8am can make for a more efficient education”
