The SSS team environmental club is a club that helps to keep the school as well as the community clean. The co-founder of this club is Johanna Hipangelwa, who handed over the opportunity and the responsibility to the orientated learner Beatrice Shongola for her to take care of it, and she is now the chairperson of the club. She is being helped by Vinia Shikesho, the vice chairperson, Esther Shimbango the treasurer, and the secretary Paulina Mbeeti. This club consist of 40 members, and they all works together to keep the environment clean and tidy, they meet twice a week (Tuesday and Wednesday) and that is when they discuss about their future plans.

“It a great pleasure that I as the chairperson of the environmental club, under portfolio of HOD of the Environmental affairs have taken over the opportunity on the school as from 2019/2020.” said Beatrice Shongola. They have the main objectives that they are working on and they are to raise awareness among students so they understand the environment issues. And they also want to instill a sense of responsibility for the environment and a personal commitment to protect and preserve the environment. The school environmental club gives students a platform they need to take action on the environmental issues they feel passionate about.

Everybody knows that littering can negatively impact your sense of community and make people feel less safe. By picking it up, you are showing pride of your community and beautifying the area, it also helps wildlife. “As a member of the environmental club, I feel honoured to be part of the club because cleaning and sustaining a clean environment is my first priority.” said Hilma Iitula, one of the environmental club members. So the SSS environmental club held their cleaning campaign on the 22 February 2020, they cleaned the seaside from the Aquarium to the mall but because they were really concerned about their environment they decided to continue cleaning until at Mondesa soccer field. It is very important to be in a clean environment as this may help to keep our bodies healthy. It also helps reduces the rate of being affected by the airborne diseases as well as it helps your mind to focus and function properly.

“Being in the clean environment it helps to reduce land pollution that might cause injuries. The litters that that are being picked up can be recycled and become useful once more.” said Hani Gowases. So this means that the environment must be clean and tidy and you must ‘Reduce, Re-use and Recycleas this is the principle of the Environmental club.
