Teaching in China

One of our teachers Mrs Rene Reid taught English in China for a while. She shared her experience with the Dolphin Digest.

“Teaching in China was an extremely rewarding experience. I taught in Zhangjiagang, a fairly small city, 3 hours’ drive from Shanghai. There were obvious struggles of adapting to a different culture but I got the hang of it quite easily. I experienced delicious local food, with JianBing (Chinese pancakes) being my favourite. I ate one every day for a year.”

She said that she learned a lot about Chinese culture and history along the way.

“I spent an amazing week in Beijing with my husband and daughter joining me there. The highlight of our week was the trip to The Great Wall of China on Christmas Day. I taught at an English Language Center. Kids are the same everywhere, all they want is a smile, enthusiasm and acceptance. I stood in awe of their dedication and diligence towards their academics. Each one of them, regardless of their age strives to be the best.”

“My year in China was really a life-changing experience. I would recommend it to each and every one. Just do it!”
