The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) officially launched its 10th Annual Programming Competition on 19 September at the university’s auditorium, with the aim of fostering innovation and coding skills among learners.

According to the competition chairperson, Josephina Muntuumo, this year’s event has attracted 41 tertiary teams and 12 high school teams - a total of 53 teams with over 250 participants. “We have also introduced a new primary school category with 40 applicants,” she noted.

Muntuumo highlighted the competition’s impact on Namibia’s tech ecosystem, noting that it has nurtured learners who have gone on to pursue technology careers and produced solutions with both national and international recognition. “Every student competing here today is part of a larger vision: to build a talent pipeline that powers our digital economy, strengthens our communities, and positions Namibia as a leader in innovation,” she said.

The competition runs for eight days, with winners receiving cash prizes. Tertiary participants will earn N$10 000 for first place, N$7 000 for second, and N$4 500 for third. High school winners will receive N$8 000 for first place, N$5 000 for second, and N$3 000 for third.

The competition not only celebrates coding excellence but also inspires a new generation of innovators. By engaging learners from primary to tertiary level, NUST continues to position Namibia’s youth as key drivers of future technological growth and development.
