Attorneys give advice to clients regarding their rights and obligations on matters relating to the law. They serve a variety of clients including businesses, local authorities, the government and individuals.
“My inherent quest for fairness and justice as a human being, fuelled my love for law and for using the law to assist people and there is no looking back,” says Nambili Mhata about becoming an attorney.
Practicing law means ensuring that your clients’ rights and interests are observed, upheld and respected. “An average day of a lawyer involves trying to persuade people. If you are not in court trying to persuade the court why it should uphold your clients' case and find for your client, then you are in boardrooms negotiating settlement or at the police station negotiating bail or in your office drafting court documents or correspondence which must also be persuasive in nature. So, an average day of a lawyer involves dealing with people,” he explains.
He says that to be a good lawyer one should also take time to observe great lawyers in court and must read a lot of legal authorities to be conversant with legal principles and also to keep track of new developments in the law.
