Biokineticist: Bjorn Magg

Biokinetics' primary function is to improve physical functioning and health care through exercise as modality. Biokinetics is the profession concerned with health promotion, the maintenance of physical abilities and final phase rehabilitation, by means of scientifically-based physical activity programmes.
Bjorn Magg is a biokineticist, and describes the word biokinetics as bio, meaning life and kinetics, meaning movement which means life through movement.
His passion for movement drove him to pursue a path in biokinetics. “I was always an active individual, playing tennis as of a young age, competing in inline hockey on a national level, and doing many other sports in my spare time. I was exposed to the profession the first time I injured my knee, and had to go through the rehabilitation process for it,” he says.
“Movement is an essential part of everyday life. Movement affects development, learning, communicating, working, health, and quality of life. At the most basic level, movement permits people to navigate and to stay oriented within their environment. It is critical for most work and recreation and allows people to interact more fully. For these reasons, movement is a defining element of quality of life,” Magg says.
“As biokineticists we promote quality of life and individual independence, rather than more costly institutionalized and supported care,” he says.
