Camera operator: Lydia Pitiri

A camera operator works as part of a film crew. In documentary filmmaking and news, the camera is often called on to film unfolding, unscripted events. Lydia Pitiri is an audio visual journalist and that involves more than camera work for the Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA).
“Initially, I wanted to be a film director and producer and later learnt that executing those duties involves knowing your camera, so I had to learn it all,” she says. She says that she enjoys it because looking at the world through a camera lens is incredible as you have to look at every detail and in the end, whoever looks at what you made, sees it from a different perspective. “I live for the next best shot and I enjoy shooting angles of things that would not attract attention,” she says.
Highlights for her include meeting many creative and interesting people, travelling a lot and seeing the world.
